Rachel Jones Odom, 82, of Roanoke Rapids died Friday, March 19, 2010 at Halifax Regional Medical Center.

Rachel was a native of Wake County, the daughter of the late Luther Henry Jones and Annie Clyde Gray Jones. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Elvin Odom. She was retired from Roanoke Rapids City Schools, where she served as for over 25 years as manager in the RRHS Cafeteria. Rachel was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Birdsong and her husband, Sammy, of Roanoke Rapids; three sons, Wayne Odom and his wife, Sherry, Dennis Odom and his wife, Linda, all of Roanoke Rapids, and Gerry Odom and his wife, Patria, of Youngsville; ten grandchildren, Sam Birdsong and his wife, Shannon, Jody Birdsong and his wife, Tracy, Sandy Parks and her husband, Perry, Jeremy Odom, Brandon Odom and his wife, Jennifer, Starr Odom, Erika Odom, Ashlee Odom, Marcy Jo Odom, and Emily Rachel Odom; eight great-grandchildren, Dylan Birdsong, Cody Birdsong, Katie Birdsong, Lindsay Wolfe, Kirklyn Parks, Camden Parks, Braydon Garrett and Drake Spillane; her sister, Alberta Rook of Skippers, VA; many special nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Dot Ussery of Roanoke Rapids.

Askew Funeral & Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids is handling the arrangements, where the family will receive friends Sunday, March 21, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, March 22, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Martin and Rev. John Alford officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
